How to Get Roofing Leads in 2026: 8 Methods That Work

Roofing has the least forgiving lead economics of any trade. Demand is weather-driven and arrives in bursts, homeowners decide fast, and the shared-lead marketplaces know exactly how valuable an urgent roof enquiry is. The contractors who stay profitable are the ones who do not depend on a single channel. Here are eight that work, roughly from fastest payback to longest.

1. Be first after weather

Hail and windstorms create a window of maybe two weeks where a large number of homeowners in a defined area all need the same thing at the same time. Whoever is visible in that window takes the season. Practically that means knowing which postcodes were hit, having a canvassing route ready before the assessors arrive, and being able to answer the phone at seven in the evening. Everything else on this list is preparation for this moment.

2. Own your Google Business Profile

Emergency roofing searches are map searches. The profile that ranks in the local pack gets the call, and ranking is driven mostly by proximity, category accuracy, review volume and recency. Photographs of completed jobs, posted regularly, do more than most contractors expect. If your listing has eleven reviews and a competitor has ninety, that gap is worth more than any ad spend you could deploy against it this month.

3. Ask for a review on the day the job finishes

Not a week later. The homeowner is standing in the driveway looking at a new roof, which is the highest point of goodwill the relationship will ever reach. A simple request with a link, in person, converts several times better than an email sequence. Ten of these a month rebuilds a weak profile inside a year.

4. Understand what shared leads actually cost

Marketplace leads are fast and they are not exclusive — the same enquiry typically goes to several contractors, so you are competing on response time and price before you have spoken to anyone. Use them deliberately: as fill for slow weeks, or as a way to test a new area, not as the foundation of the business. The moment they become the foundation, your margin belongs to the platform.

5. Build relationships with the adjacent trades

Insurance adjusters, property managers, real estate agents, gutter and siding crews, solar installers. All of them stand on roofs or look at them professionally, and none of them compete with you. One property management company can be worth more than a year of paid leads. This is slow, unglamorous relationship work and it is the most durable channel in the trade.

6. Canvass properly, not randomly

Door-knocking still works in roofing because the product is visible from the street. What separates a productive day from a wasted one is route selection: neighbourhoods of similar build age, where roofs are reaching end of life at the same time, ideally near a job you have already completed so there is a sign and a reference on the same street.

7. Target commercial and property portfolios

Residential is a one-off; a property portfolio is a recurring relationship with inspection and maintenance work between replacements. The buyers are facilities managers and landlords, they are reachable by phone during business hours, and there are far fewer of them, which makes the list finite and workable.

8. Build your own list instead of renting one

Every method above except the marketplaces depends on knowing who is in your area. That list can be built once and worked repeatedly: the property managers, the adjacent trades, the commercial sites, and — if you sell services to roofers rather than roofing itself — the roofing companies with no website or a barely maintained profile. FindLeadly builds that list from live Google data for any postal code and radius, flags the weak profiles automatically, and exports to CSV. The first 25 leads are free.

What to do this week

Pick one: request reviews from your last ten customers, or pull a list of every property management company within thirty kilometres and call the first twenty. Both take an afternoon and both compound. The channels that feel slow are the ones still producing when the storm season is quiet.
